Best Linux Hosting – 3 Reasons I Prefer Linux

I switched to Linux a couple of years ago for my web hosting needs, and have never looked back since then. I am so glad I did and really have no intention to switch back to Windows hosting. I am really pleased with it and have been addicted to it ever since. I still do use Windows hosting for clients sites from time to time, but if I had it my way, in a perfect world I would use Linux all the time. No I am not a Microsoft or Windows hater, but I do prefer Linux over Windows for a number of reasons. I will provide you with three reasons why I prefer Linux over Windows for hosting my websites.

Open Source Code

Linux uses open source code for its hosting, which Windows does not. Open source code is great because it is easier to apply patches, updates, ect too. Linux supports Telnet which Windows obviously does not support. Linux is often referred to as LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL & PHP.) With Windows it is not as flexible as Linux and doesn’t offer as much support and flexibility.

Cost

The cost for Linux hosting is exactly free which its competitor Windows is not. True Windows is a super power when it comes to to software, but they are also commercial, which Linux is open sourced and 100% free. It makes sense that Linux hosting is cheaper since they are not commercial. It is commonly 1-2 dollars cheaper than Windows.

More Value

Another great reason to switch to Linux is it cheaper. So you might be wondering if you actually get what you pay for. The answer is you get more for what you pay for, and for less than the cost of Windows. It is a no-brainer that Linux is hands-down the best hosting available.

Linux web hosting is hands-down better than Windows hosting. I would recommend that you start using Linux hosting if you are not already. We highly recommend that you read our Hostmonster Review or our FatCow Review. These are both great blog hosting companies.

Best Dedicated Hosting – Choosing the Best One

So you have made the decision to finally get a dedicated web hosting server. This can be an overwhelming decision, because there are so many web hosting companies out there. Furthermore, you do not want to fall for a web hosting company that is going to trick you into a long-term commitment, like common cell phone companies do.

Windows vs Linux

The first thing you need to know about a dedicated server is what OS (operating system) do they run on their dedicated server. Linux will be cheaper than Windows, because linux is an open sources operating system, whereas, Windows is a commercial based operating system. Linux does offer more flexibility and support, so I would highly recommend choosing an dedicated server that uses the Linux operating system.

Cost is Important

Always be careful when comparing packages. Just because one dedicated web hosting service is cheaper than the other, doesn’t mean it is better. You simply get what you pay for if you make a decision based on price. Dedicated servers are nothing to skim the price on. You want good uptime, support, and speed with your dedicated server, as well.

There are couple things you consider when choosing a hosting company other than cost and what operating system they use. Do they offer data backup, hardware options, monitoring service, bandwidth, and technical support. These are big bonuses that score brownie points with any dedicated hosting service. I would recommend that you email your hosting provider to get a couple websites hosted by them for reference. You could check out their performance yourself, as well as email the owners to see what they say about the hosting service.

Is it Good to Have a Free Web Hosting Service?

Basically, if we are talking about the free web hosting, the literal meaning of it is “free service”. Well, definitely it is true. But do you think it is good to have a free service for your own website? Is the free service will suits your needs when it comes to managing your site? Let us find the answers to these questions.

Before we answers those questions, we must know first the meaning of free web hosting service. definitely from the word itself, it renders absolutely free service. No any charges from all services. Does it sounds good? Actually, yes! But here are the bad sides. If you choose to have a free web hosting service, your desire to have your own domain name is impossible. It is because you can only have a sub-domain name here. The reason why some people use to have this free hosting service is because they want to explore their knowledge in creating and managing their website. Some used this to avoid extra expenses for their website. Well, i do not think it is a good reason just to avoid the expenses for your business. Remember, this is a free service, so what ever happens to your site, you have no rights to complain because the service is free. If that happened, your effort in making your site will definitely be useless.

If your business attracts a lot of customers, you must increase your storage capacity, because the free service only offers limited and small storage capacity. And so, you still need to invest for a payable web hosting service. A reliable and fast service is very important especially for your customers who are constantly visiting your website. But choosing the free web hosting for your site, some of the service do not have the reliable and fast service. Your customers may leave your site if it loads too slowly.

It will be better for you to have a cheap web hosting which is fast, reliable and will assure the security of your site than having a free service, because sooner or later, you will need a larger storage capacity and a good quality service for your site. And looking for a hosting service is no longer difficult now a day because there are lot of web hosting that are available. You j

Unix or Linux and Windows Hosting – Choose Your Hosting Provider

At last you are completely ready to publish a website and you are looking for an appropriate hosting provider among billiards of accessible services and tariff schedules. Thus you should notice that the majority of hosting providers use Linux or Unix operating systems on the web servers. Microsoft Windows operating system is offered less often as a choice. So, what is the difference?

The majority of people are familiar with Microsoft Windows as it is mostly used for home editions, at work and at school. It is very simple in usage for beginners and does not demand any knowledge of the console commands. In Windows Home and advanced Server variations you should just open the necessary folder simply specifying with the cursor and clicking with the mouse. Unix and Linux are systems with an open initial code (”open-source” code). This means that they are free, and source codes are properly documented and easily extended. There are no essential differences Between Unix and Linux. Unix is much older and is not compatible with personal computers x86.

On the contrary, Linux can work on high-power servers and on usual x86 computers. Linux is delivered in the big diversity of stuff though the majority of the hosting-companies choose Red Hat Linux or Mandrake Linux which have proved their rights to be true “workhorses” and are capable to maintain hundreds sites and millions hits a day. Unix produced a lot of popular now modifications known as FreeBSD and OpenBSD, they are widely accessible. While simplicity in usage is very important for a home or working computer, its absence as a whole does not make the big problem for a web server. Eventually, you do most part of the design on your working computer.

Certainly, if you do not use any exotic programming systems, operation modules, you will not notice any difference between Windows and Unix servers. Both Linux/Unix and Windows server can support with ease highly-visited sites and various additions like chat-rooms, email and web statistics. The most essential distinction is in the price and software compatibility. As it is necessary to get and update the Windows licence regularly, Windows-hosting packages are usually more expensive than Unix packages. Also tariff schedules on the Unix basis often give free email, databases (MySQL), statistics, scripts. Whereas Windows tariff schedules work with Microsoft software (for example, MS SQL) which is available for money for the hosting-provider too. Both Linux and Windows can fulfill the programs on popular of web programming languages such as php, perl, or java.

If your site uses active server pages then it will host on Windows-server more reliably. Certainly, it can work on an Unix-server too, but there can be small malfunctions which initially are not obvious. Again, if you use Microsoft SQL databases, these bases will be supported as a part of Windows-packages of hosting. In a counterbalance to it, Linux or Unix packages often include MySQL in the structure of database. This means that your bases will need to be converted into this format for normal operation. If at present you use any of Microsoft programming platforms (especially active server pages) or its indirect products (MS SQL 2000), you should stop the choice on Windows hosting-package.

For the average web designer there will be no big difference between Linux/Unix or Windows web hosting. Nevertheless, before you order a web hosting, be convinced that all components of your site — the design, programming, databases and all the rest — will work on this package. If have some doubts, ask advice from the hosting company department of sales or technical support before making a purchase.

Why You Need For Your Blog? What Is Domain Name and Hosting Account?

A domain name is a unique name that will be used to identify computer in the world of web. It is like http://www.YourDomainName.com For more simple term a domain name is similar to a employee id of a employee in any organization. The employee will have unique id which will be used to recognize that particular employee, similarly domain name are also unique for each computer those are connected through Internet. My domain name is hiphopmails.com

Every domain name has a suffix that indicates which top level domain (TLD) it belongs to. There are only a limited number of such domains. For example: gov, edu, org, mil, com, net, ca, me, biz, info. Mostly for commercial websites or blog com is used.

This is all about domain name. For a self hosted blog you need a domain name and a hosting account. Below I am explaining about hosting account.

Hosting account is needed to store all your blog content. Your domain name will point to all those content of your blog. Like previous example of domain name with employee, employee id is similar to your domain name. Now that employee has his own house or some place where he stays. Similarly you need a location where you can store all your blog content. Your hosting account will be the place which will contain all your blog contents.

Either you can buy domain name and hsoting account separately or together in one package. Normally one .com domain cost is $10 per year and for hosting account $4.99 per month. Once you bought domain name you don’t have to do anything with your domain name after setting some initial parameter. While blogging you need your hosting account for all operations such as uploading files, modifying blog etc.

In this blogging tutorial I am showing each example with Godaddy.com for domain and Hostgator.com for hosting account. I can help you in all the cases if you buy domain name at Godaddy.com and hosting at Hostgator.com. Because I have experience with these two services. It is your wish. You can select other services for domain name and hosting account. But don’t buy hosting package in Godaddy. Hostgator hosting service is more better than Godaddy.

From my own experience I am saying Hostgator is one of the best hosting service provider. When I started blogging I didn’t know anything about hosting, domain nameserver setting etc. I got help form their support team online and successfully I started blogging. They have different packages. If you are planning to build more than one blog then go for baby package. In this package you can host unlimited number of sites for just $9.99. Buy hosting package from my blog and use “wordpress” as offer code to get first month only for $.99.

So get ready with a domain name from Godaddy.com and hosting account from Hostgator.com. In next lesson you will learn how to set your domain name and hosting account. (You can access to all tutorials from the top menu “Tutorials”)
